Nastik Nation to Host YFFK 2024: A Platform for Secularism, Freethought, and Youth Empowerment

Nastik Nation is set to host the Youth Free-Thinkers’ Festival of Kerala (YFFK 2024), a one-day event dedicated to promoting secularism and encouraging critical, independent thinking among young people. The festival will be held on Sunday, September 22, 2024, from 9 AM to 6 PM at the University Students’ Centre, PMG, Thiruvananthapuram.

At a time when India’s socio-political landscape is increasingly marked by religious intolerance, fundamentalism, and ideological divisions, the need for platforms like YFFK 2024 has never been more urgent. This festival will offer a unique space for dialogue, critical reflection, and intellectual growth, particularly for the youth, who often bear the brunt of extremist ideologies.

The event aims to inspire young minds to engage in open, fearless conversations about secularism, rationalism, and the need to resist divisive narratives. It is also an effort to empower the youth to become agents of change in creating a more inclusive and tolerant society.

Key Programs and Discussions:

  • Ask Maitreyan – A candid conversation with Maitreyan, addressing pressing questions on rationalism and free thought.
  • Onam: Myth vs Reality – Vellanad Ramachandran explores the intersection of mythology and historical truths surrounding Kerala’s beloved festival.
  • Science, Religion, and Spirituality – A thoughtful discussion between Vaishakhan Thampi and Sajeevan Anthikad on the delicate balance between science and belief.
  • Criticism of Islam: For the Sangh Parivar? – Muhammad Khan and Charvakam Nagesh engage in a critical dialogue about Islam and its critiques in the context of political agendas.
  • The Justice of Reservation – A vital discussion with Murali Thonnakkal and Anu Mohan M.A. on the ethical and social implications of reservation policies.
  • Power Group – A keynote address by social science educator Shobha Lathika on the role of youth in shaping societal power dynamics.
  • The Social Relevance of Secular Family Life – A panel discussion featuring Kalliyoor Prasannaraj & Prabh Prasannaraj, Renuka Teacher & T.S. Pradeep, and Abhin G. Ashok & Aishwarya S., moderated by Kannan Sivaraman. This discussion will focus on the challenges and importance of maintaining a secular outlook within family structures.

As society grapples with increasing religious polarization and the rise of fundamentalism, YFFK 2024 stands as a bold initiative to challenge these trends. The event seeks to nurture a generation that values reason, equality, and humanism over divisiveness and dogma.

This gathering of young free-thinkers is not just about questioning traditional norms but also about building a community that fosters empathy, respect for diverse perspectives, and commitment to social justice.
